Shows

My very best of the best shows I'm gatekeeping because they're just that awesome. hehe. but here are the rest! Not saying these are horrible of course but yknow what I mean lol. I still consider myself primarily a cartoon fan, but I've been watching more anime shows as of late.

Death note

2006-2007 | Anime

I'll be honest here, I don't think it was the "mind battle of the century" or whatever people call it. Yes their uhh. fight? was good but it wasn't doing incredible psychological feats that shook my being or anything. I wasn't that let down in that regard because I didn't think it would.. so.. shrugs. I feel that I am battering Death note a little too much right now so heres some praise. I think the characters are very well rounded out individuals! I love L's quirks and Lights moral transformation. L's dub va is probably my favorite va ever now..... I can't wait to start watching the movies! (Not the netflix one that shit sucks I'm talking about the Japanese movies)

My Hero Academia

2016-Now | Anime

I wish it wasnt rated PG-13 but hey. What can ya do. Anyway I like MHA a lot! Due to the fandoms.. distasteful past/current state MHA often gets abad rep. I'm guilty of seeing MHA that way too honestly, but if you look past the fans and at least try it it's pretty good! My favorite characters are Izuku, Shigaraki, Hastume, Aizawa, Shihai, and Tsu (In no particular order) s6 was my favorite season (reasons can be seen in JJK's review) I was a little suprised by how JJK's school was so different from MHA's but thats probably due to me starting JJK right after finishing this. I didn't expect to see their school have such disregard..? for their students. It's normalized for Jujutsu High's students to die on dangerous missions, so different from U.A where they would be trained for so long before fighting a villain.. I like it. It seperates the shows!

Jujutsu Kaisen

I'll admit that I like JJK more than I like MHA. Simply because JJK shows the psychological toll it takes on Yuuji as he gets severly traumatized thoughout the anime. MHA does not show that with Izuku. When Izuku has to fight full grown adults and worry about his teacher(s) possibly dying in front of him (s1 during shiggy's first attack on UA) it doesn't show this having any lasting effects on Izuku. I know that in mha it's very normalized the way heros risk their lives for citizens but going to school to learn how to do it but having to see messed up things happening *accidentally* is a whole different arena. I'm not insulting the way the MHA world works, I'm more criticizing the way MHA doesn't show it effecting Izuku. However, in JJK as Yuuji has to watch Junpei die as a monster, clutching onto Yuuji's jacket as he pleads for help? Yuuji is visibly devastated. This event has lasting effects on Yuuji. Shibuya is undoubtably the worst time in Yuuji's life. He breaks down and has mutiple freakouts over the span of only one day. He's subjected to extreme amounts of stress and trauma. Amidst one of his freak outs says he "doesn't know if he can forgive himself anymore". This shows that this entire time (before Shibuya) he's been carrying the weight of exorcising curses with him. Of course you could argue that in the later episodes of s6 MHA it shows how due to Izuku quirk he doesn't want to harm anyone else by simply being around them anymore. That IS a step in the right direction! but in a sea of intense trauma piling up throughout Izuku's life it doesn't do much. That's why I like JJK more. Sure it's a little darker but not by much if you think about it. The only thing separating JJK from MHA is the way the main characters handle events as they pass. I'd like to talk SO much more about JJK but it seems like too much already heh.. maybe I'll make a full analysis some day..
